Jasper Johns is one of the souths most influential artists. Based on his famous American flag paintings, this painting replicates the technical style while being reversed to resemble closer the flag attributed to armed forces. Growing up minutes away from the Fort Jackson military complex, I have always felt awed by the people willing to put themselves in harm's way to protect American autonomy. While I don't always agree with the conflict at hand or the recruiting techniques implemented, I hold a deep respect for those individuals that take that step.
