Covid-19 in NYC

oil on panel- 12 X 12

This self-portrait was painted using a mirror and candlelight. It is a documentation of my time in various states of lockdown and quarantine. I painted myself wearing the law-enforced face masks that became the expected accessory seemingly overnight. And thank god for it, because of it, I was able to avoid the disease and its variants (so far). In hindsight, Covid was terrifying. I painted this as there was a field hospital in central park and morgue trucks in hospitals. Iā€™m very thankful that I had painting to distract me from the trauma of the initial pandemic.
